"It didn’t matter what they said or did, or how they acted, I always showed up." - Trina, CASA Volunteer

CASA is an amazing and unique organization that helps youth in many aspects through its various programs. It provides a network of resources and support systems. CASA also offers tools for independence to the youth and families it serves. I love CASA’s main focus of giving the child a voice and CASA has that impact and ability.

Throughout my 14 years as a CASA, I had the opportunity to meet and advocate for four minors and one transitioning adult. I am still in contact with three of my former CASA “kids” and communicate with them as often as possible. Although two of them are out of state, one is in-state and we have plans to see each other soon; she had a baby boy recently. She was my first CASA assignment and we are still close.

During my years as a CASA, I have advocated for additional services. Such as extracurricular activities and educational needs. But, I was mainly there to spend time with them and listen at a time when they needed someone the most. All of my CASA kids were over the age of 11 when I entered into their lives and had moved around quite a lot at this point. I was a point of stability in their unstable world. It didn’t matter what they said or did, or how they acted, I always showed up. I answered the phone, didn’t judge, and cared unconditionally and still do.
